Position: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Bristol

Hours: Part-time, two days a week

Contract : Temp/long-term

Salary : £80/day minimum

A specialist deaf school in Westbury on Trym have approached Reed Education, seeking a learning support assistant to join them part time basis, to support their students on a 1:1 basis within their secondary school.

The school gives the pupils the opportunity to connect to the world through developing their languages of English and British Sign Language. They pride themselves on the work they do, to support children and their families, to become skilled and confident with strong self-esteem and a sense of who they are.

Knowledge of British sign language is essential as you will be teaching, developing and communicating with the pupils to engage them in their learning.

You will be empathetic, patient and have a passion for helping children with their learning.

You will provide a high level of support for the teaching and learning of the pupils and the care and maintenance of all classroom equipment and materials whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries with young people and professional relationships with colleagues and other professionals.

The role:

  • Assist pupils to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually and support them in developing an understanding of their needs.
  • Establish a supportive relationship with the pupils concerned, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Assist with class teacher in the development of a suitable programme of educational social and emotional support for all pupils.
  • Work in conjunction with the class teacher and/or other professionals to record pupils progress.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the support programme and to provide regular feedback about progress to the teacher while contributing to the maintenance of pupil records.
  • Liaise, advise and consult with other members of the team supporting the pupils when asked to do so
  • Contribute to reviews of children's progress, as appropriate.

What we need from you:

  • Essential: Full knowledge and experience using British Sign Language
  • Empathetic, positive and nurturing nature.
  • Provide feedback and assistance to the teachers.
  • DBS registered and on the update service
  • Registered with the EWC.

The role will be a long-term opportunity, two days a week, (ideally Tuesday and Wednesday) - term time only. The pay will be £80/day minimum.
