Job description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join Airbus Defence & Space at our dynamic Newport Site.

We want you to lead our small, but expanding software support team, responsible for the development of software updates to Airbus' fielded cryptographic products along with the development and maintenance of internal tooling.

You will manage the day-to-day activities within your team, including mentoring junior members. Working alongside the Software Engineers, you will ensure best practice is being followed, assisting with any queries and using your expertise to keep the team progressing and delivering to a high standard. You will also be expected to develop code alongside the team to meet the deadlines and will have the opportunity to learn and use different languages to achieve this.

Your Tasks & Accountabilities

  • Leading the development team and ensuring high quality deliverables through code and test reviews
  • Assist with providing or reviewing Software estimates
  • Lead on software design changes
  • Assist with evaluating and recommending new technologies, tools and processes
  • Assist the Functional Manager with the management of the Engineers including their career progression

    Desired Skills & Experience

    • Experience working in a dev-ops environment
    • Strong C/ C++
    • Embedded development experience
    • Proficiency in problem solving and debugging
    • C#, Python, SQL, PHP

      This role involves working within the UK Defence industry, requiring the applicants to be UK Nationals Only (No Dual Nationals) and able to be security cleared to a UK SC level.
