Environmental Sustainability Manager

Manchester, Lancashire
£43,414 to £53,353
Job Type
7 Sep 2022

The 2020s is the decade when everything must change if they're to overcome the environmental challenges they all face. At our client, they want to be leading that change. From their world-leading research on numerous sustainability-related themes to teaching and learning with their 40,000 students, they want sustainability to be at the core of everything they do.

They are committed to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2038, and critically, within their "carbon budget". They want to enhance the biodiversity of their extensive central Manchester campus and ensure their site is a source of wellbeing for the 50,000 staff and students who live and study here. They want to reduce the volume of waste they produce, the water they use and embrace the circular economy. And they want to share their successes and challenges with their communities, whether they're local, national or international, learning from each other.

They have a rare opportunity for a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to join their Environmental Sustainability team. They've spent the last year creating a ground-breaking strategy on how to achieve their carbon targets and they've secured sector-leading levels of funding. They're now looking for someone who cares deeply about environmental matters and can use that passion to drive and monitor multi-million-pound projects which will cut thousands of tonnes from their direct and indirect carbon footprint. They need someone who can gather, manage and present carbon, energy and financial data from multiple sources and use it to win support for the next project, and the next. Their large and complex estate will continue to evolve and they need someone who understands the environmental challenges in construction and refurbishment and help them make the right choices from day one. And they need expertise to help them cut their waste while growing the amount they re-use.

They'd love to hear from you if you can help them take their environmental ambitions to the next level through commitment, energy and skill.

In return you'll be a key part of a small but influential team which thrives on collaboration and mutual support. You'll get the opportunity to work with leading academics on climate change, biodiversity and other critical issues. You'll work with colleagues across Professional Services, who ensure they run safely, efficiently and sustainably on behalf of their academic community. They hope the role will provide you with a sense of purpose and belonging along with a competitive salary. This is an opportunity to create change and make a real difference.

As an equal opportunities employer they welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.

They are positive about flexible working
