We have a fantastic opportunity for a Adult Learning Service Assistant working at a Leading Local Authority in Greater Manchester. This is a full-time role for the next 11 - 12 months.

The Role

Your role will be to work as part of a team and deliver an efficient and effective administrative/business support function across the service.


There is a lot of data input, and customer contact by phone as well as face-to-face contact involved.Experience of processing payments would be an advantage.

Provide an efficient and effective admin/business support function across the full range of Adult Learning (AL) provision at BALC.

Provide an efficient and effective face to face reception, telephone and email service for all Centre users including learners, staff, members of the public and outside agencies.

Deliver excellent customer care across the AL Service, ensuring users and learners feel comfortable with, and in control of, their learning, promoting equality, diversity, and Safeguarding.

General office duties, e.g., design/maintain databases and spreadsheets; photocopying; process post; minute-taking; bookings/issues arising; equipment use/minor troubleshooting; mail merge; archiving; maintain inventories and appliance loan records, admin support for tutors, Curriculum Leaders and other managers; using a range of appropriate systems.

Accept (re)payments, ensuring all transactions are correctly processed through receipting systems and that they are reconciled, secured, and banked in accordance with Council procedures. Raise requisition orders and process invoices as appropriate, e.g., stationery.

Effectively prioritise and process enquiries; act on the customer's behalf, where necessary handing over to appropriate colleagues, agency, or organisation; follow up any matters which cannot be dealt with immediately.

Assist both prospective and registered learners, e.g., assess need, give appropriate information and advice re courses, learner support, make appointments with appropriate Curriculum Leaders and other colleagues as required.

Key Requirements

  • Must have previous Business Support Officer / Administration experience
  • Excellent IT Skills, for logging any information on the Internal systems.
  • Excellent people skills, being able to talk to the public, clients, colleagues, and other senior professionals.
  • Would suit someone who has a flexible approach, and enjoys working with the public.
